The advantages of raffia

At Qhapak, we are proud to offer products from the AAKS brand, which uses raffia, an exceptional natural fiber, in the manufacture of its items. Raffia, mainly grown in Madagascar and East Africa, offers many advantages in terms of durability, maintenance and quality.

Why raffia?

Raffia is a 100% biodegradable natural fiber , making it an eco-friendly choice that does not contribute to plastic waste in our environment. It is both flexible, strong and extremely durable , ideal for making bags, lamps and other fashion and home items.

In addition to being versatile, raffia is also easy to dye with natural dyes, providing a wide color palette. The raffia harvesting process is also environmentally friendly.

Origin of raffia

The raffia used by AAKS comes mainly from Madagascar and parts of East Africa. The raffia palm leaves, which can reach 25 meters in length, are carefully picked to allow rapid regrowth, guaranteeing sustainable production.

The fibers are then extracted from the leaves and worked by hand by local artisans, following ancestral methods. The harvest period generally runs from June to October, allowing the plants to regenerate naturally.

AAKS brand artisans use traditional weaving techniques, giving each piece incomparable quality and authenticity.

Care of raffia products

  • Cleaning

Simply dust them regularly with a soft brush. If stains occur, use a slightly damp cloth and allow to air dry, away from direct sunlight to avoid fading.

  • Sustainability

Raffia is naturally resistant to the elements, ensuring that your items will remain beautiful and functional for many years.
